IFS Insight Guided Tour - Parts List
Start
In the lower portion of
the Narratives & Parts tab you can optionally show the Parts List, a "tree diagram" of the internal
parts. This is where you enter
and maintain specific information about parts and their roles, burdens, etc.
A shorter version of the narrative textbox remains in the upper portion of
the tab, for convenient entry of narrative information into the parts list.

For an individual, the "top" level of the tree consists of the parts.
(For a couple or family the top level is "person".) At a second level in
the tree are each part's roles. In the third level, each role can show the
burdens which originally forced the part into that role. You may optionally
use a fourth level: those chronic or traumatic events which led to the
burden. For couples or families, the top tree level is each person. The next
level is the parts, followed by roles, etc.
Certain other information is displayed at each
of the levels. The parts list is one form of mapping of the internal family
landscape. It also functions as an index, or quick access tool. You can
click on any "branch" of the tree and detailed notes, history, and other information appear
in the panel on the right hand side.
